WHAT WILL BE EVALUATED AT TRYOUTS?

Standing Tumbling:

Standing tumbling will be evaluated based on technique, control, body awareness, and safety. Athletes are encouraged to perform skills they can execute cleanly and confidently. Proper set, landings, and overall consistency are prioritized over attempting higher-level skills without control. Effort and safe progression will be emphasized during evaluations.

Running Tumbling:
Running tumbling will be evaluated on technique, power, control, and consistency. Athletes should demonstrate strong approach, proper timing, and clean landings. As with standing tumbling, athletes are encouraged to perform skills they can execute safely and with confidence. Clean execution and body control are key components of the evaluation.

Jumps:
During tryouts, athletes will be evaluated on jump technique, power, flexibility, timing, and control. Emphasis is placed on sharp motion placement, proper body positions, and strong landings. Athletes should focus on clean execution and consistency rather than difficulty alone. Effort, coachability, and the ability to apply corrections will be considered throughout evaluations.

Motions:
Athletes will be evaluated on motion technique, precision, strength, and timing. Clean lines, proper placement, and controlled transitions are essential. Evaluations will also consider an athlete’s ability to maintain sharpness and consistency while performing as part of a group. Attention to detail, body awareness, and overall performance quality are key areas of focus.

Performance Skills:
Performance skills will be evaluated on energy, facial expression, confidence, and overall engagement. Athletes should demonstrate the ability to project performance while maintaining technique and timing. Evaluations will also consider an athlete’s ability to perform under pressure and stay focused throughout the tryout process.

Prop Work:
Athletes will be evaluated on control, coordination, and precision while working with props. Emphasis is placed on clean handling, strong motion placement, and the ability to stay in sync with the group. Athletes should demonstrate confidence, awareness, and adaptability while incorporating props into performance.

Dance Skills:
Athletes will be evaluated on rhythm, musicality, coordination, and movement quality across multiple dance styles. For game day and sideline cheer, athletes should demonstrate strong band dance execution, clean transitions, and the ability to maintain energy and precision throughout repeated performances.

For traditional competition cheer, athletes will be evaluated on hip hop–based cheer style, including footwork, floorwork, body control, and performance quality. Emphasis is placed on clean execution, confidence, and the ability to adapt to different styles while maintaining strong technique and overall performance presence.

Stunting:
During tryouts, our focus is on quality stunting. Athletes will be evaluated on technique, control, safety, effort, and their ability to work as a group. Solid fundamentals and clean execution are essential.  Athletes with prior experience in specific stunt positions (flyer, base, back spot) will have that experience noted and considered during evaluations. We value knowledge in your position and will use it to help place you in roles where you can contribute best, while still emphasizing overall team fundamentals and safety.
